Freedman's Favorites and Fades For Week 3 Fantasy Football

Introducing ... Matthew Freedman's favorite (and least favorite) fantasy football plays for Week 3.

Week 3. It's here.

This is always one of my favorite weeks of the season.

Week 1: Everything is new, and after months of speculation, we finally see what has changed and what has stayed the same across the league.

Week 2: We think we now know what's going on … but we still have only one game's worth of data to work with for each team. In reality, we don't know much more than we did in Week 1, even if it doesn't feel that way.

But Week 3: Now we have two distinct game-level data points for each team and every player. I mean, that's massive. Place those two data points on graphing paper, put a ruler down, and draw a straight line between them. Booyah! Now we know everything!

Nah, brah.

We know more than we did last week, but the season is still young, and a two-game sample is still almost nothing.

Every season, in Week 3, we have some mediocre 2-0 teams and at least one great 0-2 team.

In the words of Matthew McConaughey in Wolf of Wall Street (or Johnny Depp in Donnie Brasco, take your pick): "It's a fugazi."

Don't overreact to anything. Don't put too much weight on what we've seen so far. Don't act as if we have anything more than a mere modicum of new information at our disposal.

In other words, don't freak out … at least not yet.

Next week, we'll know significantly more: Three data points mean substantially more than two. Triangles signify in ways that lines can't. Next week, if you want to freak out, go for it. I might join you.

But this week … just take everything as it comes, and remember that overconfidence in small numbers can lead to ruinous loss in large matters.
